“A Call in the Rainforest” awarded 2nd Prize

My film “A Call in the Rainforest” has bagged the 2nd Prize in the “Aapala Paryavaran” Film Festival conducted by the Environment Department, Government of Maharashtra and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

In a glittering function in the Yashwantrao Chavan centre in Mumbai, coinciding with the World Environment Day celebrations the award was presented by Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Prithiviraj Chavan and Shri Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister on 5th June 2012.

Later in the afternoon the film was screened and received rave reviews. I am happy that now the film will be widely screened across Maharashtra and this will help in raising awareness about the plight of the Lion-tailed Macaques.

In the film “A Call in the Rainforest“, I had tried to show the impact of human induced changes through the eyes of the protagonist the Lion-tailed Macaque. Many of the issues raised in the film is also observed in other wilderness areas.

Earlier in Feb 2012, in the Haida Gwaii Film Festival, Canada, this film “A Call in the Rainforest” was screened. They had sent their feedback: “Your film was very well received it was one of the top favorite of 36 films we screened. Your film was a very inspirational topic for environmental issues in our small Archipelago….. We do have sitka whitetail deer overpopulated that is eating cedar trees and indigenous plants of Haida Gwaii, we also have a oil pipe line Embridge proposed project that is a high treat for our west coast waters in case of a oil spill. Your film had a great sample of solutions to issues which brings new avenues to think and address ours”.

Since, people in the other half of the world have said that my film had a great sample of solutions, I hope screening in various parts of Maharashtra will help the people to learn from it.

This film is available in DVD. For details please check here: http://www.indiawilds.com/diary/a-call-in-the-rainforest-dvd/
