    Default Bamni Falls

Went to Purulia last March with some of my friends. This one is taken on the last day of our stay there. There are a mythological saga behind the source of this falls. What I heard is that- in 'Ramayana', during the exile of Ramchandra, Laxman and Sita they stayed in Ayodha hill for some days. It was summer and there was heavy crisis of water. One day Sita asked Ramchandra to make a permanent solution of this crisis. He then threw his arrow on the ground and there appeared a well. It is known as 'Sitakunda'. Till now it never got dried up. All these are words that I came across the local people. They also believed that Sitakunda is the actual source of this little falls. I have a great question mark on this. By the way it is really a cute falls runs through the hill.

The vertical composition looks nice. The low shutter speed has helped to get the smooth waterflow. Nice story behind the falls . Thanks for sharing.

How big is this falls? From the image it doesn't look tall? I have never been to this place, so am curious. Is there a forest nearby? Is the hill tall? The water has come out well due to the low shutter speed.

In many places locals have named falls according to Rama and Sita. So believe it according to your beliefs.

By the way, since you have mentioned Rama and Sita from our Epic Ramayana, I am sharing some timelines related to Indian history and the dates of epics. Quoting this from the Book "The Difficulty of Being Good - The Subtle Art of Dharma" by Gurcharan Das:
    Indian History Timelines::
    2500 – 1500 BC : Indus Valley Civilization
1500 BC : Rig Veda is complete
1200-900 BC : Yajur Veda, Sam Veda, Atharva Veda
950 BC : Kurukshetra War in the Mahabharata probably took place
650-400 BC : Early Upanishads are composed
483 BC : Death of Gautama, the Buddha
468 BC : Death of Mahavira, the founder of Jainism
400 BC- 300 AD : Mahabharata is composed
300-100 BC : Dharma texts (Dharma Sutras) are composed
327-25 BC : Alexander the Great invades Punjab, India
324 BC : Chandragupta founds the Maurya dynasty (324-185 BC)
    265-232 BC : Ashoka reigns
    200 BC-200 AD : Ramayana is composed
185 BC : Pushyamitra founds the Shunga dynasty (185-73 BC)
100 AD : Manu composes his famous text on dharma
320-550 AD : Gupta dynasty rules from Pataliputra (Patna)
400 AD : Kalidasa writes the play Shakuntala based on a story in
    Mahabharata
788-820 AD : Shankara, philosopher, writes a commentary on the Gita

Thank you Sabyasachi da for your valuable words. This fall is not so big as you assumed. Though a larger part of the same fall is also there which I failed to visit. I was suffering from belly ache and dysentery badly due to previous two days of improper outing in scorching sun and low quality food. It was just a visit with college-friends and there was no such intention to serious photography. So, the place is calling me for some greater experience. The hill is average tall. Though there is no so called National Park Or Forest. Vehicles are found climbing uphill with tourists. Tourist can visit Dalma forest (about 100kms) from there.

    Thanks Arun!

I have been in Dalma Hills before and have had some memorable experiences there, many decades ago when I was posted in Jamshedpur.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
