Sony has announced a new E mount PXW-FX9 digital cinema camera as a successor to Sony FS7\/FS7II.<\/p>\n

15 stops Dynamic Range:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

FX9 offers an exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range \u2013 beyond the normal range of human perception \u2013 allowing for unprecedented creative freedom in colour grading and post. Camera operators can concentrate on framing the scene they want while relying upon the FX9 to capture every nuance and detail using either 4K 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording or 16-bit RAW external recording to an external recorder. The firmware to enable raw recording will be released on a future date. In grading, colourists can find colour and detail beyond the normal viewing abilities of the camera operator to create a final image that exactly portrays the mood of the scene.<\/p>\n

In addition, Face Detection intelligently recognises and locks on to human faces.<\/p>\n

The dedicated 561-point phase detection AF sensor covers approximately 94% of the whole image area width and 96% of height, allowing consistently accurate, responsive AF tracking, even with fast-moving subjects.<\/p>\n

7-level AF transition speeds from Fast \u2013 switching between subjects as quickly as possible \u2013 to Slow, where speed is reduced to fit a more measured shooting style, such as a historical TV drama.<\/p>\n

5-level AF subject shift sensitivity ranges from Locked-on \u2013 ignoring other moving subjects in the frame \u2013 to Responsive that switches focus from one subject to another \u2013 ideal for snapping between race cars as they speed by.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Image stabilization:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With the PXW-FX9, image stabilization info from the built-in gyro is stored in the metadata so the shooter can choose to turn stabilization on\/off or adjust the level of stabilization for each shot when using E-mount lenses, Sony’s Catalyst Browse (v. 2019.2) clip-organizing tool, and most popular NLE systems. Designed to smooth handheld shots to the look of a stabilized gimbal, this feature offers impressive stabilization control.<\/p>\n
