It looks like a snipe, but not sure. Experts, Saktipadaji or Roopak please confirm. Thanks for sharing.

These appear to be Pin-tailed Snipe juveniles-Gallinago stenura. These are not Painted Snipes. Good capture.

Ragoo sir, I thought the curve in the beak is fairly obvious.so is the marking around the eye and the wing pattern. will be helpful if can guide further on your observations.

P.S.:My focus has been on Mammals for a long period and yet everyday I discover how little I know.

I agree with Mrudul and also agree that she missed out Ragoo Rao's name. Satishchandra Ranadive is also good in id of birds.

A lower angle, if possible, would have further strengthened this image.

P.S.:My focus has been on Mammals for a long period and yet everyday I discover how little I know.

After interacting with him, I felt Shaktipadaji is a meticulous student of nature. Anyone who maintains focus, observers and reads is going to assimilate much more than others.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

I have checked this with someone fairly knowledgeable on the subject. Even he feels this is a male painted snipe.
