Catacanthus incarnatus, commonly called the "Hitler bug". The reason behind the name can be understood clearly when the bug is seen from this angle :). I think there is some detail loss in the image. Is the image rotated 180 degrees?

The same species was posted some time back by Jitendra Katre... Shield bug - IndiaWilds- Conservation & Nature Photography Forums (http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10084)

Quite clear why it is called a 'Hitler bug' :). Agree with Abhishek about the detail loss. Thanks for sharing.

Raj, I agree that common names for insects are very ambiguous. In fact most of them don't have any universally accepted common names, and are referred to by their scientific names alone. One comes across various names of this bug, in India the names "Hitler bug", "Man-faced bug", "Samurai bug" etc. are used and recognised by experts as well.

This looks like a mask from africa. :) I guess calling it Catacanthus incarnatus would be beyond the majority so the names.
