Median Egret... Non Breeding

Went to the salt pans of airoli in navi mumbai and saw quite a few egrets. I actually went for brahminy kites but it was raining and couldnt spot any. Instead spotted quite a few egrets. This guy seemed to be busy munching on b'fast.

Were you shooting from a bund or something as the angle is higher? How do you go to this place?

Nice to see it fishing :). The reflection looks good. A catch in its beak would have added to the image :). Thanks for sharing.

Yes Sabyasachi, I was on a bund like structure from where I was photographing them. When I tried to move closer they'd fly away. I then had to hide behind the bund and wait for them to return.

The salt pans are off the main road connecting mulund to airoli. One has to park their vehicle and then slowly walk up to them without disturbing the area as the salt pans owners can get upset if they sense disturbance.

Thanks for the id Roopak. Salim Ali's book has an image saying this is a Median Egret. Need to check with Grimmet also I guess.
