Canon 100-400 uses pull and push mechanism and there is a ring to adjusts(losen/tighten) the tension on the zoom part of the lens. I tighten it and when the tiger was on the move couldn't push back to zoom out since it was very tight and tiger was close to get full figure, so tried this.
If I had tried to loose the ring, the tiger might have vanished in trees and I might not have got this one too.

Kiran, nice image thought i feel its a little underexposed. I have often find myself in the same predicament as you with my 100-400 :). I think your picture came out really well.

Hi Kiran,

I too took some time adjusting to the push-pull of the 100-400mm. Sometimes I forget to push it to its maximum, but now getting accustomed with it.

Sharp photograph. Liked the low angle and the eye contact. The raised paw enhances the image further. Keep posting..

I understand. Infront of the tiger people fumble to open their lens caps. Once I was clicking with a 70-200 lens and completely forgot to zoom to 200mm. It is always good to tighten the lens but if you are not photographing a stationary animal then better not to tighten.

One gets a good idea about the soft pads in the paw from this image.

I like this image a lot. As stated the eye contact and raised paw work well. Agree about opening this image up a bit.

Kiran,
The push-pull of the 100-400 was one of the factors that drove me away from that lens.

Anyhow, the image is sharp, nice moment captured. I, personally, don't like the crop of this image. The animals seems huuuuge....it's a pity you didn't manage a pano of the entire body with that lens at your disposal . :(

Anyway, there's always a next time.
