Nice find. Many insect larvae show this behaviour, most of them moth caterpillars. They find any debris in their surroundings and use it to construct a cocoon. The material used reflects the habitat the larva lives in.
Why the bright white BG, was it kept on paper? More of the natural environment would be better.

@Abhishek Jamalabad - It's not paper. This one was crawling on the white, mat finish tiles in my backyard. So you can say it was in it's natural habitat :)

@Mrudul Godbole - I wish I could use a higher ISO. I have a 6 year old Tamron 70-300 lens. It works only at 300mm, f5.6, ISO100. If I change any of these, I get an 'error 99' message. I am only able to control the shutter speed. So until I send it for repairs or buy a new one, I have to make do with what I have. :)

Nice find. It tells a story.

Your tamron lens is old and its firmware is not compatible with your Canon body. It needs to be sent to Tamron to update. The repairing shop will not be able to do anything. It has to be Tamron. I have no idea if Tamron has service centres in India.
