These are certainly one of the most short-tempered snakes around. Nice details. I suppose you composed it this way to avoid as much of the fence as possible. Was this clicked during a rescue operation?

Lovely image. The head, eyes, vertical pupil, the body colour and pattern look fine.
Amongst the four highly venomous snakes of India, I consider it as the most difficult one to tackle. It may look sluggish but could accelerate in short spurt and more particularly, could spring sideways and strike very hard.
Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Abhishek- I tried to get its body as much as I could in one frame, hence some part of the fence is visible. This was being let off around the outskirts of Bangalore after being rescued from a hardware shop.
Saktipada ji, I completely agree with you. These are a part of India's big four and I did notice its precise, unpredictable and agile movements. Must say it was a pleasure to watch this majestic snake as it slithered about, searching for gaps to hide in.
Thanks for the inputs :)

I only hope that since many snake images are posted, someone is not tempted to go very close to the snake and click image. I am happy that the snakes are rescued. Most of the times ignorant people kill it. Many snakes are killed in construction sites and those go unreported.

Thanks for the inputs mrudul and sabyasachi.
I guess zoom lens come in handy when you're tempted to have a closer look at a snake :)
Luckily, there are still some people left on this planet who risk their lives to rescue snakes in challenging situations. I recently came across a rescuer who rescued an injured cobra from a bamboo tree at a construction site. The snake's condition was critical. It was saved by vets as they operated it and kept it under care for a few weeks till it could be released into the forest, which was done by the same rescuer.

Lovely image of the russel's viper. Its one of major contributor of snake bites in India. The scales look lovely and its famously know for its 'short' temper (pun intended :)). Thanks for sharing.
