Crested Serpent Eagle at Bandipur... This is a crop to make a vertical composition...

Canon 350D plus 28-135mm IS lens
exp 1/640
f 5.6
ISO 200

I normally don't like the idea of cropping from horizontal to vertical as the overall image quality degrades. It also reflects that we didn't think in the field. Well, I too did it once and realised that I missed clicking it in the field. Would like to see the horizontal.

I like the symmetry between the two branches. You should have used a narrow aperture like f8 or higher. However, by using f8, you would have been forced to use a higher ISO. I won't venture into high ISOs in the 350D. So I would have remained with f5.6 in this camera. :-(

Cheers,

Hi Sabyasachi,
You are right. I should have been more thoughtful abt this in the field... I do have vertical shots, but not when its looking into the lens... will post them later. I used 5.6 as the BG looked cluttered and wasnt diffusing properly... alternatively i could ahve tried to include them in focus with a narrower aperture like u said.. f8 or higher...

Bibhav, the crop has resulted in a significant drop in quality.
