I believe the pond herons are not sought much by photographers, but it is an interesting bird, becoming white in flight. While I was waiting at the edge of the pond for other birds and some interesting action, made the image of this pond heron close to the bank and eyeing for some fish.

Canon 1Dx EF 500mm f4 IS L+ 1.4xTCIII ISO 4000, f5.6, 1/2000s.

Loving my new 1Dx for its quick focus acquisition and low noise at high ISO, better be at the price!

Nice image, certainly a cooperative subject. Good details in the head region. How about more Dof with a lower shutter as the bird is more or less stationary? would be nice to see a vertical with more space at the bottom if you have made any.

I agree with you. Most of the times people don't wait for the pond heron. However, if we are patient then one can get some good pose as well as an image with a catch. Thanks for sharing.

Nice close-up. Liked the way it is balancing on the twig. Good colours and details. You got it with a catch? Thanks for sharing.
