Most of the wildlife enthusiast and bird watchers must have photographed nightjars. I tried very hard to capture the nightjar with my camera for two nights without success. On third night there was some delay in switching the solar fencing around Malani FRH, based on last two nights observation took a calculated chance and stood like a statue with my camera ready in all respect about 15 feet away from the favourite perch of this nightjar. To my luck the nightjar flew in exactly at 6.45 pm and got this shot. NIKON 3100, NIKOR 70-200 mm f 2.8, shot at 70 mm with flash on.

Nice sighting. Your patience paid off :). Slight off-centered composition with less space on the right would enhance the image further. What was the ISO?
Thanks for sharing.

For some reason I haven't seen nightjars perched on the road or on ground during the daytime in Corbett. I have seen that in many other places.

Flash on wildlife is a debatable subject as it doesn't allow time for the eye to be dilated and causes momentary blindness in nocturnal species. I have seen if we slowly throw a consistent light on the subject, then they get time to adjust.

Every time I see the solar fencing of Malani, I feel sad. It is a beautiful place.
