In late 1960 and early 70's there were only 60 odd estimated barasinga left in the park. With Barasingha project of Kanha they have incresed to about 300 odd. This image was frozen at Kanha village (relocated) meadows. Blur image of fencing for barasingha project can be seen in the background, where cureently some barasingha alongwith blackbuck conservation project is ongoing. The antlers look nice. Wish the eyes were sightly in the clear. Its good to know that their numbers are increasing. Nice grasslands are formed after the village relocation, perfect habitat for the barasinghas. Thanks for sharing.

This hardground Barasingha is definitely an owner of splendid antlers, but he is not a proud owner, he has still been kept inside the enclosure.
I fondly recollect how these deer alongwith blackbucks used to roam gracefully in Kanha meadow when we first visited Kanha in March 1975.
In May, 2005 last, I had seen them inside enclosure and in 2013 what I see through this image, I can not say whether some Barasinghas have been released or not. Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

He was roaming in the wild. About 240 barasingha are currently roaming in the wild and behind is the enclosure, no jeeps are allowed near the enclosure

Good to hear that 240 barasingha's are roaming in the wild. Their population had come down drastically.

When the subject is in the grass, it is better to use manual focus.
