Elephant Charge

The jeep ahead of us had spotted a Tiger and were pointing it to us as we joined them to watch the cat slowly move into the bushes. This mother elephant with two of her calf's were behind us as we passed them to get tp the the Tiger. Without warning the mother charged (she probably felt we were cutting off her view of the cat, which she must have been watching closely in the interest of her calf). Initially we thought it was a mock charge but the elephant got to within 10 feet of the jeep and the driver had to speed away.

Was a bit hard to focus on the eyes for the animal was coming towards us quite fast (the focus seems to be on the trunk / snout). Light was a bit low and had to resort to a high ISO.

You captured the behavior nicely. Looks like a serious charge. Agree the focus seems to be on the trunk. Good details and composition. Nicely photographed in difficult conditions. Did you get the tiger? Thanks for sharing.

I think the elephant got irritated because you sped away to get close to the tiger. Elephants use their trunk a lot as their sense of smell is very good. There are instances when a tame elephant which was virtually blind changing its route to eat the leaf and flowers of the tree it likes. Whenever there is a tiger or even people nearby, the elephant will raise its trunk to sniff. During fights it moves away its trunk from harms way.

The trunk portion has come out sharp. The quality of the lens makes a big difference to the image. Thanks for sharing.
