The Carambolim lake here in Goa has a minor population of the big guns..!!.the Mugger Crocodile...about 8 to 9 of them...going by the number I could spot..
I have been observing them since three years now....and it is always from mid May that they come out to enjoy afternoon siestas by the lake..!..and don't seem bothered at all..that they are so close to human settlement..without any barriers....maybe its us, living around the lake that must keep a safe distance..!!..:)..

I am posting a series of pictures documenting my observations of these Mugger Crocodiles...in the Natural History Forum..with the same title..

The basking pose looks nice. Seems like a big croc. Good you got it fully in the frame. Look forward to the natural history series. Thanks for sharing.

Nice one. Muggers could be seen in some water bodies across the country almost in all seasons. Reasons may be that their susceptibility to temperature variation is less, other is known that they will live peacefully near human settlement, if undisturbed. It is not the case for Saltwater Crocodiles.
Here you find them in dry period, may be because the number is very less or they they may be digging burrow.
Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

These crocodiles have remained virtually unchanged from prehistoric days. The only change is in the size, perhaps to reflect the much smaller size of the prey species these days. They deserve our respect and a habitat to live in peace without disturbance. Some more space at the left would have been enhanced the composition. Thanks for sharing.
