Had been to Bandipur last weekend. We came across a Male Spotted Deer carcass. A stripe necked mongoose emerged in some time from the Lantana bushes and started feeding on the carrion.

Canon EOS 7D, 420mm
SS 1/500
f/5.6
ISO 400

Cropped from top to remove unwanted Lantana space.
Comments and critiques welcome.

Rare and nice image of largest Asiatic Mongoose. The dark-black stripe from ear to shoulder is clear. Conscious about intruding upon other's property. Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Nice to see this. Kailash Sankhala has mentioned in his book that he has found mongoose often using its sharp teeth to tear away the tough hide of dead animals and this helps other scavengers who would have had a tough time to open up the carcass.

In this case, the mongoose is late and carcass has already been cleaned up with a few morsels left.
