Little Cormorant

This shot was taken on the stream that flows next to the 1st gate (ruins) of the rathambore fort entrance and parallel to the connecting road between the outer main gate and singdwar. This particular little Cormorant is in breeding plumage. The difference between this little Cormorant and the common Indian Cormorant is that the bill is slightly smaller and bit broader than the Indian Cormorant, which has a narrower and longer bill with ends in a prominent hook tip, blue iris and a more pointed head profile. The breeding adult bird has a glistening all black plumage with some light / whitish spots and filoplumes on the face.

Nice info Debasis. Indian cormorants are bigger in size and also show a little yellow in gular region.Harsh light.

Nice perch. Good eye contact. A lower angle if possible would have enhanced the composition. Agree with Roopak, the light looks harsh, using a -ve exposure compensation would have helped. Thanks for the detailed information.

Tough scene as you have both the black and the bright light in the same scene. A negative exposure compensation of about half a stop would have been better here. In these situations one can also do meter reading from the water and then expose accordingly. One can also see small muggers here at times. The angle is virtually top down and one can't reduce it from this pose. Thanks for sharing.
