Eagle was resting in one of the trees in Valparai.

Nice head turn. Wish the branch in the foreground was not present. After getting this image, did you try to slowly go a bit closer to get the bird more in the clear? Thanks for sharing.

Did u make any other images where any part of the legs or underparts are visible ? I have a feeling this is a Mountain hawk eagle.

Hi Roopak,

No I couldn't get where part of the legs are visible. However, I have got another picture attached which I think is different bird compared to the one here. Can you please provide me the name of the bird.

hi uday,

this is a crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) which is lot more common in our jungles and country side. Pls do not post more than 1 image in the same thread. It is better to post a seprate thread and refer to the older thread if required.

Crested Serpent eagle. Protected under the same classification as the tiger in the Wildlife Protection Act. Once I saw langurs giving alarm calls when one of these birds landed close to a troupe in Ranthambhore. There were small kids in that langur troupe.
