This was found deep inside the jungle, during our sojourn at Parambikulam along with the forest department folks.

Apparently, this was the handiwork of a Tiger, which had a showdown with this bear. The other bones were scattered around the area. The forest department folks claim that this was almost 3 months ago and the carcass was eaten in bits and pieces by various animals - starting with the Tiger, over a period of time.

Thats a rare photograph. Its good you could go into the deep forest with the forest department people, you get to know a lot about animal behavior.

Thanks for sharing the information. Look forward to more..

Rajan,
A grown up tiger can easily kill a sloth bear. There have been records of Tiger killing and eating sloth bears.

Cheers,

Good one rajan... This could probably initiate a thread in the natural history section maybe?
Can someone provide more info on this behaviour...

PS: Talking of Bears, recently a bear in Orissa supposedly "killed a woman and started eating her" post which it was badgered to death by the villagers. Saw the villagers beating it death on the news...
