Saw it coming to the water hole to drink water. It is a very shy animal, and this is the first time I could photograph it properly. It was late evening and the light was quite bad.

They are known in various names: barking deer, Muntjack, Kakar etc
Scientific name: Muntiacus muntjak
They vent a sharp alarm call. However, their alarm call doesn't mean a carnivore is around. I have seen them at the sight of a snake as well. In this image we can see that it is careful and is moving step by step, possibly towards water(?)
I was surprised to see lot of barking deers in Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary in the Muthodi side.

Lovely image, Mrudul. I haven't been to many wildlife santuaries but found barking deers to be plentiful in K.Gudi too. In fact in all the jeep rides there came across quite a few of these.

Hi Mrudul,
The composition looks good. However the sharpness is a bit low. Maybe you could work on that again. :)

Mrudul,
Methinks it needs a tad more sharpening. Agree with Udai about the number of barking deer to be found at Kyathadevaragudi.
