This samhar most conveniently had his eyes closed while chomping on the bark of a Sal tree . Once in a while he acknowledged our intrusion by opening his eyes and staring curiously.Canon 60D+100-400mm 1/1250s fl400mm ISO1600 F/7.1 early morning Nov 2013.

Nice image. Sambar is versatile in its feeding, nice to see it eating tree bark. It is enjoying food, it seems. It looks like that its left brow tine is broken. Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Nice record. Also at times they rub the preorbital gland (scent gland) near the eye on the grasses to mark their presence. In such times you will often find them with eyes closed. Thanks for sharing.
