Queen of Spain fritillary (Issoria lathonia)
A high altitude butterfly of the Himalayas, with a wingspan of about 5cm. Clicked at Jalori, Himachal Pradesh in an alpine meadow partly covered in snow. Skittish and a very fast flier, this is the only decent image I could make, when it settled for a moment and allowed me to creep up to about 2 feet working distance. Regret the low DOF, I was too afraid to sacrifice any more shutter speed!

Lovely sighting. Nice to see this species. The colours have come out well, especially the ones on the body. Good details and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mrudul and Roopak.

Roopak: It was certainly out of the ordinary :)... Have been meaning to write down a trip report, but been very busy since I got back. Maybe in a while.
