Imagine a rodent or lizard feeding and suddenly looking up to see this Pallid Harrier male swooping down above!

It looks ghostly and owlish from this perspective. A fine species that is seeing considerable decline in numbers in Europe that has put the overall species in the Near Threatened list of IUCN.

Shot with Nikon D 90, Nikkor 300 mm F4, at 300 mm, ISO 800, 1/1250s - F/5.6, +0.3EV

Nice flight pose captured. The wing span looks nice. Agree it does look like a owl. Good eye contact. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice perspective. It does look intimidating! I guess you have attempted opening the shadows... although necessary, it seems to have brought out some noise. In such conditions I would dial in a higher EC, +1 at least. Though possibly not ideal, it works better to overexpose and recover details than to underexpose. With slow moving raptors such as kites, eagles and vultures, we can afford several attempts, but with harriers, falcons etc its tough to get a second chance.
