Hi Rakesh,

Rakesh,
Camera is dependent on your budget. Having seen a few of your photos, I think you are limited by your camera equipment. It is better that you buy a digital SLR and lenses as per your budget. You can keep on adding lenses as and when your photography demands and you feel comfortable. In couple of cases, I have forced people to buy lenses as they were not sure at the time whether they can do justice to that lens. However, later they have come back and thanked me for suggesting a good lens.

Feel free to ask, and there are lot of people who will give you good suggestions.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Rakesh,

You can post on Bangalore photography club for your requirement or on JJ Mehta -http://www.jjmehta.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl.

You can try posting on these sites. But you have to check the equipment in person to see if it is good. There are some shops in bangalore as well which deals in second hand cameras.

Rakesh,
In the past I have bought second hand camera equipment from Singapore. People tell the truth there. However, I get it checked before buying. If you are buying second hand equipment in India, you have to carefully check and recheck the equipment as people tend to understate facts. :D Ofcourse, with digital one can click a few shots and check it.

These days lot of people in India are upgrading to newer bodies and better lenses. So you can find a good deal.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Hi Mrudul tell me

Deepak,

You can look for a second hand Canon 350D, which should be around 10-15k and a second hand zoom lens. For bird photography you will need a longer focal length lens like 300mm and above. Since your budget is around 30k, you can try for a second hand Sigma lens 170-500mm. A canon 100-400mm lens which I use presently is a very good lens, you can try if u get it second hand.

You can check the links I have mentioned above, for similar deals.

Deepak,
As Mrudul has suggested, you can pick up a second hand 350D at about 10-15K depending upon condition. For bird photography you need a long lens.

The Sigma APO 150-500 OS HSM is about 50K. If you can get a second hand one, that would be cheaper, but won't fit into your budget. You can buy a new Canon EF 70-300 f4-5.6 lens without IS at around 10-11k. A similar new Sigma lens would cost around 11-12k. You can get started with this kit and polish your skills. Improve your tracking skills, sit in hide and you can get some close shots as well. Later on when you are comfortable, you can upgrade.
Cheers,
Sabyasachi

I was offered 12k for my 400D. So a 350D should come cheaper, but I would suggest a at least a 400D or 450D.

Also note that the Canon 55-250 lens, which has IS, is available, new and official import at about 13k, however, do check if it works on 350D, 400D, 450D, and 500D. It's an EF-S lens, not an EF lens.

Why Sony?

They have some good wide angle zeiss lenses. However, not so good in telephoto side. They are just developing their line up and its a long way before they can challenge Canon and Nikon.

Canon and Nikon are the two leading brands and both are good. Unfortunately, for Nikon the problem is the availability of their long telephoto lenses. Nikon is also is invariably costlier, no reason why.

then in this price range what else is suggested. ill be paying 37k for the whole set.

The A200 may be a little bit cheaper, as it is now discontinued and being dumped by dealers.

In that price range, I would prefer the Canon 1000D. Both are entry level offerings. The Canon has a live view and also has mirror lock up.

The RAW images of EOS 1000D are sharper than the A200. The noise characteristics ie. high ISO performance of A200 is not good.

I won't advise buying the A200 even though it comes cheaper.

I haven't checked the latest Canon prices. However, I think you can get the EOS 1000D, 18-55 lens and a 70-300 at nearly 37-38k.

I just happen to know... Brand new EOS 1000D with 18-55mm at J.J. Mehta (of course with Canon India warranty) is 29,990.

If you are constrained by budget then i wudnt suggest going in for a new body at 29990. then you woudnt have much left for a good glass... Bodies can always be upgraded later. A good lens for once will last you through your new and old bodies... :)

Abhishek,
I saw the same price mentioned in the Canon website as well. That is the max suggested price. The street prices will obviously be much lower.

Bibhav,
In India, not everybody likes the idea of buying second hand. Some people even think it as an affront on their capability or ability to buy. The other aspect is whether you are able to get a good deal. My personal belief is that for items like cameras that depreciate so fast, buying a second hand one makes sense, provided the camera is functioning fine.

Every paise spent on a good lens is much much more value for money than the money spent in the body.
