Have you uploaded an image with more than 300kb file size or larger than 1024 pixels on the longest side? If such cases the software automatically resizes the image. Atleast the previous image was resized by the software as in that image the longest side appears to be 1023 pixels. The image posted in this thread is soft.

Why use 370mm and then crop?

Is it image cropped to 10% of the original size?
For calculating crop percentage:

Original image size in pixels: A*B
Cropped image size: a*b
Percentage crop= {(Original image -cropped image)/Original image}*100 = {(A*B-a*b)/(A*B)}*100
For 7D the original image size = 5184x3456
Say you aggressively cropped the image to = 1791x1000
Now the crop percentage is = {[(5184x3456)-(1791x1000)]/(5184x3456)} = 10%
ie. you have cropped off 90% of the image.

You can now check how much percentage you have cropped.

yes 10% cropped of the original size..

Why don't you post the image as clicked so that we know that the softness is not because of cropping. To find out the problem one has to remove one variable after the other in a systematic manner. We can only offer proper critiques if we get complete information. Without that the critiques will also not be of help to the person posting the images.

Nice sighting of two cubs with their mother. Good eye contact from both. There seems to be loss of details due to the cropping. Looks like more than 10% crop. Wish they were closer. Thanks for sharing.
