Almost non existant in our neighbourhood at Chennai, this little fellow was a welcome treat at Kabini . . .

It looks a bit tight, but I still love this image. The details on the feathers have come out well.
They're pretty rare here in Mumbai too, but I've been seeing some flocks lately. Hopefully they're somehow making a comeback...

I agree that they have become rare. In my childhood days, I used to see that they nest in the nook and cranies of the house, especially in the open space left for the skylight. With ACs becoming the norm, they can't even enter the house. Unless and untill you keep some artificial nest boxes outside.

The image is sharp. A lower angle would have made it superb.

yes, this was a sloping terrain. I did get a few ground level shots, but the grass and the little twigs in front kind of hid it and the details of the legs were not reachable . . . .
