The light seems to be a bit harsh. You could have tried to get a lower angle, by squatting (if possible). Some more space all around instead of cropping would enhance the composition. Thanks for sharing.

It becomes a very dirty affair to try and click a good shot of this bird as one need to get down to the eye level in the process lying on the mud. When one is at the level of the bird, the background automatically gets out of focus and doesn't require blurring. :) Thanks for sharing.
