Nice environmental composition. Its good that you didn't crop the image to get a close up. It seems the focus is not on the bee-eater. The AF point it seems is locked on the leaves. Please check the AF point. Also an off-centered composition, placing the bird a bit more to the right (as it is looking to the left) and more space on the left would have enhanced the composition further. Were you using centre AF point? You have to make sure the AF point locks on the subject. You can half click first, so the focus is locked and then click the image. You can use the viewfinder after you click to review if the AF point has locked on the bird. Keep practicing :). Thanks for sharing.

The image is soft. Your shutter speed was fine. You need to check with your original image to understand the reasons for the image being soft. Having said that, I am not aware if your Nikon software can show you if the AF point is on the subject or not.
