Srilankan Frogmouth--Male and Female

This pair was perched on the low branches of a thickly foliaged tree, totally camouflaged , and surrounded by vegetation.It was raining, and the mushy ground was crawling with leeches.They were too close for the100-400 that I was carrying so the only option was to capture it with my Nikon coolpix ISO 800, FL26mm, F/6.1 1/30s Late morning Thattekad 2014 Sept.

There is a marked difference in colouration of the male and female of this species. They are difficult to sight due to the excellent camouflage. Good that you could track them down in the morning when the light levels are better. Thanks for sharing.

Beauty! The sexual dimorphism of the species is well documented in this shot. You've also got great eye contact and sharpness to the image considering it was a secondary camera you used. And above all, frogmouths in the clear and a pair captured so well!!
