Nice silhouette. You could have tried to give some -ve EC, as the sun is appearing very bright and is distracting. How was the sighting in LRK? Thanks for sharing.

manual exposure with spot metering blown highlights of the sun intentional, the rann is still wet restricting access season
ususally sets in november

Looks like there are two suns merged together.

In 7D when Spot metering is on, the camera meter reading is from the central part of the frame and not from the subject. So when you use spot metering and the Sun is at the side, you are not metering the Sun and exposing accordingly.

A word of caution to all: Don't look directly through the viewfinder at the Sun else one risks damage to the eye.

No. Only 1 series Cameras have spot metering linked to AF point. In other cameras the spot meter reading is from the centre of the image. So when spot metering is used and the bright object like Sun is off centre, the meter reading is not from the Sun but from the centre of the image. The metering system of the camera hence will expose the birds flying in the sky as dark objects with the sky also rendered closer to middle grey. Sun being several stops brighter will get burnt out.
