I agree that it is a bit soft. First the focus has to lock on properly on the bird. Since these birds keep on moving and when the bird is small in the frame the focus point even though covering part of the bird also falls outside the bird and it can be slightly ahead or behind depending upon contrast. In this case critical focus appears to be slightly behind. You will be able to know better when you check the original image at 100%.

The other thing to note when the bird is small in the frame, cropping magnifies the errors. So it is very important to get the technique right as well as use any kind of support inform of tripod, bean bag, monopod etc. Thanks for sharing.
