Common Indian Monitor (Varanus bengalensis)
Maximum length recorded is 1750mm (tail 1000mm). Normally it's a burrow dweller and is more active in mornings and evenings. Folk traditions have various stories of monitor lizards being used by soldiers to climb walls of forts.

Nice sighting. Good eye contact. A lower angle if possible would have enhanced the composition further. I too have heard stories of it being used to help soldiers climb steep forts :). Thanks for sharing.

Its eye is in shade. A catch light in the eye would have been nice. So it is important to get into a position based on the light angle. Also better to keep on monitoring the head movement as with each slight change in the head angle, the impact of the image either increases or decreases. Thanks for sharing.
