Sarus crane are the tallest flying bird in the world and also the state bird of Uttar Pradesh! Last year around the same time I had came across a pair inside our SGPGIMS Campus. This year I saw a pair in the paddy fields just beside the walls of our campus. These are magnificent birds whose numbers have declined greatly in the last century and are currently listed as vulnerable species in IUCN list!

Nice to see this majestic bird. The colour is a bit washed out. A lower angle would have ensured the hedge appearing over its head. Now that hedge line appears just behind the back. How much is the crop?

Nice pose and good eye contact. The red eye with the catch light looks nice. I had seen a pair in Bharatpur a few years back it was an amazing sighting. The old rickshaw person there told me that, years back he had at a time seen 10 to 15 pairs in Bharatpur, now sighting even one is rare :(. Thanks for sharing.
