Brown Fish Owl

At Corbett in Dec 2014. On our way to Dhilaka, there is a spot where we saw 3 of them - parents and a juvenile. Here we see one of them with a fish catch, glaring at us.

Shot with the Nikon D750, Nikkor 300 mm f4 + TC 14E, at 420mm, ISO 2500 (light was very poor in the shade of the tree's canopy), 1/125s - F/5.6

Nice capture.... Is this full frame? Keeping the object little more off-centred would have been Better IMO. Thanks for sharing.

Nice stare. Liked the way it has firmly caught the big fish in its claws. I think the AF point is locked on the body, so the eyes are not covered in the depth of field. Wish the light was better, so you could have used a narrower aperture with a higher shutter speed for more details. Thanks for sharing.

Tough scene in low light. Good that you saw it with a catch. I always like the eyes of the owl. Do you have VR in your lens? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks all....this is a 15% crop to remove an area which was burnt out as the sunlight was coming through some leaves and the ISO was high. Sabyasachi my 300 mm f4 prime is the older non VR lens....

By the way is this owl a Brown fish owl or a Tawny fish owl....some people have told me it may be the latter because of the whitish whiskers....although for a Tawny the tarsus needs to be 2/3rds feathered, but it looks here as if it's not...

Nice to see this Kaustuv. good you caught it feeding. this is clearly a tawny fish owl and corbett is known for regular sightings of this bird.
