For the last few weeks I am trying to understand the mechanism behind how a Grey Heron takes off..I have managed to photograph more than 200 usable images for that and more to photograph. This is one of those images. I shall post some detailed experiences with this big bird's take off weighing more than 1 kg from floating hyacinth in Natural History section soon...
Photographed from a fishermen boat in Mathura Beel, West Bengal
Canon 7D + Canon 500mm f4 + Monopod
ISO 400, 1/640, f 7.1, full frame

Lovely take off pose. Did you try using a higher ISO and shutter speed? That would would have helped to get more details. Please check the AF point. Is it locked in the foreground? Look forward to more from the series. Thanks for sharing.
