On a trip to Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary, took the pciture of a night heron. This picture was taken just before the breeding season. Perhaps thats why the bird is looking not that flamboyant.

Moral: Bird photography is at its best during the breeding season.

I agree that the breeding plumage is always much better - they are at their attractive best during that period.

This image would have been stronger if you place more space infront of the subject ie. towards the direction it is looking at. Also, a slight head turn towards you would have improved the eye contact. Look forward to more.

Never heard of yellow crowned night heron... only heard of the black capped one
