Spot Billed Pelicans - Pallikaranai - Chennai

Have observed the new flock of Pelicans arriving at Vedanthangal and Pallikaranai - Just before the monstrous rains at Chennai.

The bird flew past overhead and was quite close.

Nice flying pose captured. Did you use any presets for the background? How is the situation now in Pallikaranai after the floods. Did you get a chance to visit it? Thanks for sharing.

Mridul - No presets used not any PP except for minor cropping.

Pallikaranai marshes are flooded and was devoid of any during the heavy rains. Yesterday I did see a few flocks returning but not in numbers we saw last Feb - March.

Vedanthangal, prior to rains had a good number and around 7 species - on Nov 24, 2015 as against the normal 14-15 species. Expected to increase to around 25-30 species by end Jan 2016. As you may know, Vedanthangal will be primarily the nesting grounds and most fly out for their food to the nearby areas of Pallikaranai / Shollinganallu / mudaliarkuppm / etc
