What a wonderful image! The elephant seems to be practically supporting himself on his tusks. The size of his tusks seem to have reached an unbelievable length for an Indian elephant. Thanks for sharing

How fortunate you have been to view this tusker almost in the open. Also for documenting such a beautiful and record image.
The elephant is in its prime (or may be a little older), it is a medium-sized bull carrying exceptionally long 'record' tusks 'sloping down to ground'.

M.Krishnan writes:

".....such animals are usually only of average size. Such tusks are a constant embarrassment to their owner, hindering free movement (especially of the head and trunk) and being a serious handicap in intraspecific fights, sometimes even in feeding."

Wish you very best in your journey through the Indian jungles.

Incredible.... unbelievable. You are blessed Prashobh to have an encounter with this huge tusk tusker. It seems his tusk are bigger than what I have seen in Sri Lanka largest tusk tusker named Millangoda Raja. Thanks for sharing

What a stunning image of this magnificient animal . . . . The tusks are almost Surreal . . . . I’m reminded of Satao, Kenya’s Iconic Legend, who was supposed to have had the largest tusks known (and was killed for the same pair of tusks by poachers). Thechikodu Ramachandran carried the label of the largest one in India for a while stood at a stunning 314 cms, yet had tusks probably half the size of this animal you have pictured

Rachael Bale of National Geographic, in her article writes - Tusk size is, in part, genetic. Such males (with large tusks) help in keeping juvenile delinquency as long tusks are a symbol of strength in elephant society.

That was truly a rare find . . .

Thanks for sharing. . .

Majestic looking animal. Nagarhole seems to have some really big tuskers with the tusks reaching the ground. Great find.
