Nice image. I missed going to Bhubaneshwar and mangalajodi in jan this year.

Most of the times when they take off, they angle away from us. That presents a challenge as the body is at an angle to the focal plane. The leg and rump part is in focus and the head is away and not in the plane of focus. The depth of field due to f7.1 aperture doesn't ensure the head as sharp. If this were not a full frame image then the depth of field would have been higher and may have covered the head well as depth of field is also a function of distance.

The other challenge with this image is that the bird's head is just above the treeline. If the entire frame would have been covered with the treeline, the background would have been darker than the head. In that situation the eye would not have appeared relatively dark. That is why I prefer the first one or two shots after takeoff. Look forward to more.
