This was the first mammal which I had seen in Gir NP, two years back. Not sure what happened to it's skin on the right. I took couple of snaps and went ahead.

Nice image. It is a very typical behavior of a mongoose to turn back and see. I have been hearing about it since childhood :). Nice eye contact. Seems it has some problem on the coat, there is a patch on the back too where there is no hair. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pose. What has happened to its coat? Many questions come to my mind :
(1) Is it shedding of hair with weather becoming hot?
(2) It it due to skin infection?
(3) Is it after effect of venomous snake bite?
(4) Is it because of trimming by human being before releasing to wild.
Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

Uday,
This looks like mange disease in mongoose. How far were you from the nearest village? Can you give us the actual date when it was shot after checking the image properties? If you have any images from other angles then please share.
