Picture perfect....foreground water with synchronized display by the subject and the beautiful background forest. Love the image

Superb composition. Very educative image. Mother and the calf are drinking by sucking muddy water up their trunk and then squirting down their throats.

Madam Shyamala,
(1) During hot weather did you find her taking out some fluid with the trunk from stomach and spraying it over herself or the calf?
(2) Since I cannot enlarge/expand the image, am I correct that I am viewing the two fairly impressive small tusks of the female elephant in your image?
Thanks for sharing.

Nice image. The colours give a depth to the image. Unfortunately the image uploaded is small, so we can't view the details. Uploading upto 1000 pixels on the longest dimension makes for better viewing. We have also increased the file size limit so that you can upload a file with higher kb.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi, hope this upload is better:001_unsure:

Saktipadaji I checked the sequence and I did not see the mother drenching her calf. All her efforts where concentrated towards shielding the calf from our sight by interposing her body in between, during her approach to the waterhole and while leaving it.
Also you are right, the mother does have two little tusks.:confused1::)

Nice to see them both enjoying a drink in peace. Was a herd around? Liked the composition and the display of the habitat. I think using a narrower aperture would have been good here. Is the above re-post image converted from RAW or from a jpeg file? As there is some loss of details. Thanks for sharing.

Both mother and calf are in the same posture with their trunks in the mouth bend at the almost same angle, that's giving a sort of symmetry in their bodies. It's a rare to see a female Indian elephant with tusks. A image emitting a ray of hope for the future of Indian Elephants.
