ID: Pied Avocet

One of the few pied avocets seen along the Bhandup Pumping station area, this, along with the others, seemed to be leisurely floating along the waters. The time and the lighting being a bot odd, I tried to go ahead with High key shot.

EXIF:

It is not easy to get the ideal shots at a place like BPS. The lighting is tricky, and very often people try very close approaches by boat, which is extremely detrimental to the birds there. What is the current birdlife like at BPS? Have you made any lists?

Nice to see that they are back in BPS :). Wish the light was better. You photographed this from a boat? Thanks for sharing.

@Abhishek, atleast unto last weekend, there the number of Lesser and Greater Flamingos have dwindled a bit, apart from that roughly 4-5 Pied Avocets are still roaming around, an Osprey and an Indian Spotted Eagle is regularly sighted; a few black headed ibis, spoonbil and Grey herons have been regularly spotted. Just last weekend a huge group of waders including the little stints, lesser sand plovers, curlew sandpipers, godwits have joined in. Few Eurasian Curlews were also spotted, along with Black winged stilts and apart from them a group of Garganeys, Northern Shovelers and spot billed ducks are usually spotted right next to the jetty
@Mrudul Madam, Yes had taken it from the boat
