Black Kites are good in nos here and these were flying together.Still not very comfortable with the focussing system!

I used the 45 point auto focus system of the camera. But single point auto focus may be better but difficult to get on to the flying birds.

Canon 80D,Canon 100-400 IS II USM,f9,1/1600,ISO 400,Eval metering,Improvised tripod with sofa cushion on top!

These days the number of kite population has gone up in the cities :(. I agree getting the AF point on the birds can be difficult. Did you try hand holding? I am quite comfortable hand holding with the 100-400 lens. If you have a good shutter speed (atleast 1/500 to start with) then you can try hand holding that might help :). Thanks for sharing.

I would just say that perfect balance between 2 birds along with sky has been maintained in the picture.

When the birds are way too far ie very small in the frame, the AF point covers a very large area. So one is not sure as to where the camera focuses. In such situations the image would be soft. In flight photography, track the bird before it flies past. You have to allow time for the AF point to acquire focus ie lock on to the bird and then move the camera and when the bird is in the region where you want it to be, just click the shutter.
