Was able to click this gorgeous male as he crossed the lake in his bid to join his sibling on the opposite side.We were located in a position of vantage on a bund which enabled a clear view of the crossing. The two of them were alternately emitting ground shaking roars in order to direct each other as to their respective positions. It was an exciting early morning sighting in Gir. It was a cold wintry dawn and the light was extremely low. Nikon 7100+150-600, ISO 1600, F/8, 1/400 s, FL 500 mm, Jan 2018.

Nice pose captured. The composition looks good. Did he swim and cross or just walked through the lake? Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

He sort of made short leaps and bounds using the little patch of island behind him to lever himself. His paws got visibly muddier though.

Its just wonderful that you got this lion at Gir!...When we visited in Nov 2017 we missed the lions! But we didn't visit Devalia because it was more of a Zoo than real wildlife sanctuary.Very nice pic and we dont see lion's pics often.

We were lucky to have three sightings in the six safaris that we took in Gir. The trick is to get into the park before dawn. The Lions are on the move generally on the road. The only negative is that the light is too poor for photography. We heard the lion roaring first in the forest beyond where about 8 other vehicle were also present. Luckily our guide predicted the movement of the lion and moved towards the lake from where were the only ones to watch and record his majestic approach .The best part was that there was just enough light to take some decent images.:001_smile:

Nice sighting. Less space at the bottom would make it even better. Great that it was directly facing you. Look forward to more. Thanks for sharing.
