One can learn to decipher the pug marks of animals with little bit of study. This is the pug mark of a female tiger. The distance between the "Pad" and the "Fingers" are longer for a Leopard, and the fingers are more flat for a male tiger.Learning to read pug marks are very interesting!(But dont for a moment think that I found out all these just by looking at this pug mark! The safari guides are always there!).

Nice. Able to understand the signs in the jungle is very important. While reading Jim Corbett books, one can see how while moving through the jungle he could read the different signs, from the pug marks of a leopard/tiger to the calls of the different birds. That way the jungle used to unfold the events that happened before him :). Thanks for sharing.

The best known authority of pugmark reading was Saroj Raj Choudhury. He couldn't handle the trauma of his favourite hand reared tigress Khairi's death. I think Saktipada ji has the pleasure of meeting him and Khairi in her prime.

PS: You can see the photo of a real pug or paw instead of a pugmark in the feb IndiaWilds newsletter.
