Not sure about the name, is it a Purple Sunbird ?

Nice photo Dipak ji, yes it is Purple Sunbird. You may wait for a bird like sunbirds to come close to your camera..

Thanks, I waited quite a bit for this shot and a couple others. But the closest they'd come was on the tree tops to feed. That was just out of reach of my 300mm I guess. I think I should stick to fairly large subjects at such distances.

There are many places where they come close. You need to find out the places. I remember once we were in a resort in ranthambhore and the sunbirds were so close that I was attempting to click them with my phone. These birds are nectar loving birds and will come to flowering trees where lot of flowers are present at one spot. So identify such spots and wait. Patience is a virtue.

This bird is a male and is darker in colour.
