Spotted in Velvadar, afternoon of Jan 2018 .Nikon7100+150-600 F/8 1/1250s ISO400.It was very windy and the bough on which the bird was perched kept moving violently up and down in the breeze.

Nice head turn and eye contact. I think the AF point is locked on the body and as the head is further away, I think the depth of field is not covering the eye. But as you have said, it would be difficult to focus with the branch moving violently. You have captured it well in the given conditions. Thanks for sharing.

Nice eye contact. I like the bill gifted by nature for flesh tearing and eating. Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

I agree with Mrudul's observations. When we use long lenses the depth of field becomes narrow. So when a bird is perched with its tail feathers towards us and its head away from us, the head doesn't come in focus along with the tail. These birds would be couple of feet from head to tail and that can't be covered by the depth of field. So side profile is always easy to capture. Thanks for sharing.
