These are tiny birds so it becomes difficult to shoot. Need to wait for them to come close. Since the bird is small in the frame, the autofocus locks on the water and the water is in focus. The bird is also dark so the contrast based autofocus faces problems. The red eye due to the colour attracts attention and the lack of critical focus and sharpness on the bird becomes apparent.
