This image is the result of backyard birding at our hotel in Masinagudi, last December. The balcony of our hotel provided ample opportunities to photograph these birds, sitting absolutely still was the need of the hour and the birds would come closer. While photographing these leafbirds we noticed a very interesting behavior. The bird would hop from branch to branch till it found a nice juicy fruit and would pluck it and start sucking the juice out of it. When the juice was complete in one side of the fruit the bird would toss it the other side and start sucking the juice from this side. The bird would toss the fruit till it drank the entire juice and would then get rid of the fruit. The bird would not eat the fruit but only drink from it, was a very interesting sight and I managed to capture this behavior in a few images that I will soon post in the natural history section.
