This was photographed in Sunderbans a few years back. The forest department is making an effort to introduce deers back in Sunderbans to increase the prey base.

Canon 80D, Canon 100-400mm L IS USM lens, 1/320, f8, ISO 400, hand held, full frame

Comments and critiques welcome.

What I liked about this image is the beautiful side lighting accentuating the innocent looks. The ear and hind part glows in the side lighting. Most of the tourists often ignore the deer. However, without prey species there can be no apex predator. And only when a person looks at a deer then he/she can understand its beauty. Our traditional poets had written lots about beautiful maidens and coined the word Mriganayani (means the one who has beautiful eyes like a deer).

This image also shows the habitat of the Sundarban deer. I wonder how much more calories these deers would be burning while moving in these swamps as compared to deers in other forests. Similarly the Sundarban tigers are also more lean as compared to other tigers.

Longing for a Sundarban trip. Will look at my Sundarban images and post some.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
